By now, your child should be using a wide range of ICT tools and information sources to support their work in all subjects, and having access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures. They will begin to question the reliability and quality of information and learn how to edit and change their work and present it in a way that suits its audience.
How will my child use technology?
During Key Stage 4, using ICT tools such as the internet and whiteboards should feel like second nature to your child and they should feel confident about using them to:
- analyse and evaluate information from different sources to solve a range of problems
- judge the value, accuracy and plausibility of different information sources and justify their choice of information to others
- explore, select and use ICT-based solutions to solve a range of problems for themselves
- use ICT safely and responsibly
- critically evaluate and justify the choice of ICT tools and act on feedback from others
- use a range of technologies to share and present information in a variety of ways that suit different audiences
- send and receive information safely, responsibly and securely.
review, modify and evaluate work as it progresses, reflecting critically and responding to user feedback
- evaluate their own and others’ ICT-based solutions, using the results to improve the quality of their work.
What types of technology are we talking about?
In Key Stage 4, children are encouraged to use the internet to solve a range of complex problems and prepare project work on a regular basis. They may be asked to use the whiteboard to present back multi-media presentations to teachers or their class peers. They should also be able to use other technologies such as digital camera and video, sound recording equipment, robots, mobile phones and basic software programmes.
